C4C Conference 2013

(One week from today, I start my new job!)

I spent last Friday and Saturday at the Champions for Children conference in Abilene, Texas, and it was awesome. We got to hear speakers from all over the nation, leaders and experts in psychology, law enforcement, and trauma-informed care.

But of course, when you're talking about all the horrible things that happen and all the dangers to children in order to make things better, you have to eat a lot of cookies and cry for a while.

Now that I've had a little time to do that, I can tell you what I learned:

There are ways to make the world a better place. Some people actually know how to make that happen. Those people need my help and support, and they need yours, and the world won't actually get better until we do.

10 Things that Happened Since My Last Update

Kids left.

Our car was totaled by a deer with poor decision-making skills.

My sister got engaged.

My job ended.

I got a new job.

There's an upcoming foster care prayer vigil in San Angelo, during which I will tell people how to pray for foster families.

I decided that I'm going to apply to Ph.D programs this fall and started studying for the most illogical and poorly designed standardized test ever, the GRE.

Our air conditioner and plumbing the same day.

I finished watching every episode of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

My capacity for accepting any kind of change to my life filled up, overflowed, turned around, and punched me in the face.
